antique pearl drop necklace

I have a necklace handed down to me from my grandmother, guessing it was made circa 1900 (possibly older).

It has 5 natural pearls (tear drop shape) each attached to a floral gold setting in which each setting has 3 very tiny natural pearls (each floral setting is spaced about 1 in apart on a gold chain. Each floral setting has a jewelers stamp with an S.

Do you know of a internet site that I might find the jewelers name and history by the Stamp? Do you think it is valuable enough to appraise and if so should I have it appraised by a gemologist or an antique appraiser?
