Blackamoor Earrings
by: Anonymous

Hi Mary,

They are beautiful earrings. The letter R was used by many companies with different style lettering. There are a few companies the R could be associated with, without a picture I cannot tell from the style of the lettering which one, it could be Royalty Jewelry MFG, Reich Jewelry, OM Resen or Reeves MFG Corp.

The number 585 is the gold content as defined below...

carat 14 Fineness 585 Gold Content 58.5 C583/58.3% in USA

Sorry I cannot identify the 2 shapes without a closer inspection.

I hope this helps.
Best Wishes

Opinion of Authenticity
by: Help Elf

Karen
I think what you are requesting is an opinion of authenticity. Are your Blackamoore earrings really authentic, genuine, Blackamoore earrings?

In other words, not reproduced in an artisans studio or workshop after 1930?

I would like to suggest you request an Opinion of Authenticity, in a digital certificate format, which you can print, link from auction listings or email to a friend. The price for a single Opinion of Authenticity is only $5.95 at WhatItsWorth2You.
You will need to register there first, but it's a very simple process.

Dating Blackamoor Jewelry
by: Mary

Thanks Valerie for your comments. This has me baffled. I am assuming they are real gold because of the numbers. There is little information on the internet for this type of blackamoor jewelry. I guess i'll never find out and just enjoy wearing them. Just another question, what does "studio-made or simillar mean"? On closer inspection, I see they are not so properly made at the join seams so im guessing they were made a long time ago and they never had proper tools needed for jewellry making. Would you still date them pre 1930's? Thanks once again.

Blackamoor Jewelry
by: Valerie

Hello Mary, I have checked all of my reference sources and although I can not see the marks you refer to in the image, I can tell you that there is nothing in print or on line resources to identify this mark.

Blackamoor jewellery was made all over the world in the late 19th early 20th ( up until 1930 's ) so it could have been made anywhere. It may be studio made or similar so if this is the case, it would not be recorded.
