How to Identify a Box full of Jewelry
by: Anonymous

Hi James thanks for writing in.

The more info you can find out about the jewelry, the better. You also stand a better chance of not getting ripped off if you know something about the jewelry if you decide to devest at some later stage. We have no way of knowing if the box of jewelry contains fine antique jewelry, office jewelry, costume etc. or an assortment of all of the above.

DO NOT TRY AND CLEAN THE JEWELRY UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE. HANDLE THE JEWELRY WITH CARE.

Now first two steps are as follows:

1. Purchase a jewelers loupe or magnifying glass with 10x magnification.

2. Methodically, examine each piece, one at a time, under good strong light; examine all over the metal parts, and I mean EVERYWHERE, hangtags, front and reverse of piece, clasps, pendant bales, pins, etc. Arrange all the pieces that have any kind of mark on them, engraving, name, stamp, anything in writing, into another box.

Let us know how you get on and we can take it from there.
