Butterfly/Moth Mark
by: Anonymous

I have what I assume is an Italian micro-mosaic pin. On the back is the letter A, a Butterfly/Moth and then three numbers, maybe 106, 901, 301 - very hard to read.

How do I insert photos?

Butterfly | Moth Hallmark

It's impossible to tell without seeing an image, because you say it could be a dragonfly moth or butterfly. It is not an assay mark or indication of carat weight, it might even be a bird, since they all look very similar, especially if it is as small as it seems to be in your description.

14K gold is used all over the world so it is not exclusive to North America.

There is nothing listed in any resource I have which identifies a moth or butterfly as a hallmark.

Butterfly/ Moth Photo Requested
by: Hallmark Guru

When reviewing this question and related concerning the butterfly mark, we noticed that you did not have any images uploaded. The hallmark guru is unable to respond without them.

The best size is "Web - Large" to facilitate the smooth uploading. If your images are too large, they will not upload to the site. If they are too small, the Guru will have a problem seeing them.

Please send one of the whole item, the front, back, top and bottom. If there are any signatures or markings, please include a closeup of them. Thanks

Butterfly or Moth hallmark

Good Morning Annemarie!

there has been a number of queries about this mark - Butterfly or Moth on vintage/antique gold purses with 14k or 585 marked on the gold frames.

As Antique Jewelry & Pearls is our main focus on Antique Jewelry Investor, I would like to send this query over to an expert in this particular area. Unfortunately, we haven't a photo of the mark to go by. Even if the mark is clear and easy to describe in words, there is nothing that compares to actually seeing the mark. No problem.

I'll get back to you Annemarie as soon as possible and post my findings as a follow-up to your contribution, as soon as I have any further information.

Best Wishes,
Yvonne
