Mother’s brooch
by: Franks Reyes

Hi there,

My mother has found a brooch of the same type as those mentioned above.

1. 9
2. 375
3. Shape I can’t figure out
4. Letter ‘R’

Would you be able to tell me anything about this piece?

I have really clear photos but how can I upload them?

Best wishes,
Franks

Cameo Brooch K I L
by: Anonymous

I have a cameo brooch with the mark K I L on the frame. I have looked up gold marks and this doesn't correspond to any. Could you tell me if this is a gold mark or not at all?

Birmingham Maker's Mark
by: Fiona

I have a similar brooch. The sideways anchor is the assay mark for Birmingham (strange as it's in the Midlands miles away from the sea, think it might have been named after a pub). The manufacturer is E J Clewley & Co. Try Googling the Birmingham assay office.

Photo Request
by: Anonymous

Please upload three images of the mark. A photo showing a close-up shot of the mark. Another photo a little further back, showing the mark and the surrounding area. A third photo of the actual cameo. To determine the maker of this cameo, images of the marks and the cameo are required.

It is easy uploading photos on Cameo Question Forum. For guidelines click Here.

So we can assign your photos quickly to this question, in the "Name Your Question" Box type: "Cameo Brooch Hallmarks, EJCY & CO."

Post 1975 Birmingham Date Letter
by: Anonymous

Hi Jo are you from the UK?

Crystal's date letter (birmingham) looks like the date letter used from 1975 when it along with all other British date letter sequences changed.

Here is the date letter chart that you can compare your date letter too.

Let me know how you get on and them we can investigate the maker's mark further.

with regards
Yvonne

Cameo Brooch Date Letter
by: Anonymous

Hi Crystal thanks for the following cameo question:

"I have inherited a shell cameo brooch from my Grandmother. I have no idea of its history, but as the 375 mark has no decimal point in front, I will assume it's post 1975. The other marks read:
EJCY & Co
Then four stamps:
Crown
375
Anchor sideways (maybe?)
A in capital italics (maybe?)
Does anyone know where this came from and when it was made?
She lived in Sydney, Australia, in 1975.
Kind regards, Crystal."

Good clear images of the mark and the cameo are requested.

best wishes,
Yvonne

Photo Requested
by: Anonymous

Hi Crystal thanks for your email. Yes Please! A photo of the marks will help.

If you can send through three photos, one of the whole piece and two of the marks from different angles, the marks as close-up as you can get. You can now upload up to Four images with each submission. Details on how to upload an image can be found Here.

best wishes,
Yvonne
