cameo habillé ring

Thank you for the photo! It's not often you see a Cameo Habillé Ring - so in this one respect it is a rare find afterall there is not much room for a carving when you consider how small the surface has to be to execute a carving of this size, and if the carving has been produced by hand - can you describe the reverse of the cameo ring - is it covered over or not, can you see the material? Are there any markings on the metal? These findings will help.

After 1850s Victorian women shown wearing jewelry became commonplace, which resulted in cameo designers (artists in general) reflecting this new social development onto a smooth flat surface, in cameo jewelry design we see the cameo habillé appear.

The cameo habille´depicted the portrait of an idealized woman adorned with Jewelry, and tiny diamonds also called melee diamonds which can be separated into sizes. On the cameo these where represented in the jewelry such as earrings and a necklace.

Cameo habillé has found great popularity and continues to be produced today. So the next question to ask is if your cameo ring is antique cameo or vintage; modern antique style cameo habillé ring.

Warm Regards

Yvonne
