800 Mark on Gold
by: Yvonne

Good Morning Lisa!

Your Coral earrings sound gorgeous. This mark is quite strange though, isn't it. 800 fineness is more commonly found on Silver metal. Vermeil comes to mind, and with this pair of ear rings embellished with Coral, and the metal looks yellow colored metal in the ear ring finding themselves, indicating GOLD metal. I would guess your earrings have been made in Portugal. 19.2 carats gold, fineness expressed as 800 which is 80.0% Gold content is a Gold Standard of PORTUGAL.

The other mark will probably be the sponsor's mark. When there is no Compulsory hallmarking system, (like there is in Britain, France, the Netherlands, Morocco, Egypt and Bahrain) manufacturers usually stamp the jewelry themselves.

I would love to see an image of these Coral earrings in their entirety.

Best Wishes
Yvonne
