David Mir signed Brooch?

I just purchased a brooch that is large, goldtone with an onyx or onyx cab in the center. After much examination, the mark in the back appears to be MIR. I know that David Mir was a designer for Trifari in the 1930's to 1940's but I cannot find a mark for him anywhere. Would he have made jewelry and marked it MIR? Maybe before or after he was w/Trifari?
