Gold Signet Ring - Expert Required

by BG
(London)

I have a family signet ring that has been handed down from generation to generation. Unfortunately over the years its history has been lost.

I have taken the ring to a number of places in London but no one is able to identify the marks (except for the 22!). The other marks look like a T, P, G, and then a crown.

We are also unsure as to what the bird is, and whether the crest represents anything? Also what is the history of having a crest and a motto?
