Good Morning

looking at the style of dress of would date this piece around the mid 1890s. However, was it made in the time period or was made a later date, to reflect this by gone period? Many new cameo investors are not clear on this disitnction. Is it antique or reminiscent of an older period in history?

In the 1890s day bodices had a standing collar and during the mid 1890s a moderately low necklace became acceptable for day. Evenings permitted a more daring neckline. This can be substantiated art; the painting of Winifred, Duchess of Portland that master painter Singer Sargent completed in 1902.
You can see the transitioning. She is also wearing a corsage of Natural Pearls. Pearls, have alwasy been a sought after commodity and historically only for royality or the very wealthy who could afford such extravagance.

What a beautiful old cameo pin. It might be French. The background appears to be dark blue? What is it made from? It doesn't tlook like conch shell that's for sure. Simone
