Cost of an Appraisal

I think the price for an appraisal varies widely from jeweler to jeweler. If the purpose for the appraisal was to obtain insurance for your vintage pearl choker, then paying more for a quality appraisal is preferable. This is also true though if you plan on putting the pearls on the auction block. If the motive on the other hand was more out of curiosity, I would look for an appraiser with a lower price tag. Single Stranded Mikimoto Necklace
by: Yvonne

Good Morning

How beautiful! - your single stranded Mikomoto pearls are around the same length and vintage time period that Mikimoto released in the United States and Japan, limited edition pearl necklaces, produced in memory of Marilyn Monroe, and designed after her own Mikimoto Pearl Necklace given in 1954 as a honeymoon gift by her first husband and baseball legend- Joe DiMaggio.

A single stranded pearl necklace was the height of the fashion among ladies both in the United States and Europe around this time.

The Marilyn Monroe Pearl Necklace is now the valued possession of the Mikimoto company.

Shortly after their wedding this famous couple in love went on a honeymoon trip to Japan. It was during this trip that Joe DiMaggio purchased the 16 inch single-strand Akoya pearl necklace from Mikimoto in Japan, and presented it to the love-of his-life as a honeymoon gift.

The Akoya pearl necklace was the only other piece of authentic high class jewelry that Marilyn Monroe owned.

I would get a second opinion or appraisal carried out. Also check the clasp - is there a signature of any kind?

Warm Regards
Yvonne

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962) Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.
