Finely Detailed Gold Work & Art Nouveau Jewelry
by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre

just to add to Valerie's comments, the expressive and finely detailed gold work, the flower and leaf motive and the choice of turquoise stones, indicates to me, the art nouveau era (1895-1910), early 1900's.

Not French Art Nouveau; French art nouveau will have an eagle head hallmark along with the 18k gold mark. During the art nouveau era, leaf, flowers, birds and the female form dominated as jewelry motif.

Also gemstones during the Art Nouveau were chosen for their desirability and not for their expensiveness. Opals, moonstone jewelry and turquoise where the stones of preference during the Art Nouveau period.

Marie, it might be a good idea to get another independent appraisal, the price of gold has increased since you last had the set valued, not to mention the desirability in the marketplace for premier antique jewelry and matching jewelry sets.

I have no hesitation in putting my name with
What It's Worth 2 You for an appraisal which Includes a valuation. Many of the gold hallmark experts from WIW2U give their opinions not related to value here at Antique Jewelry Investor.

best regards

Gold Standard & Hallmarking of Gold
by: Valerie

Marie - The hallmarking of gold is almost as old as Gold itself !
Amazingly, the assignment of value, according to the gold content is centuries old. Hallmarking of gold was started in England in the 1300's.

Up until 1575, the "gold standard" (being the best) was 18k.
Then it wast then changed from 18 to 22k.

In 1798, 18k was again introduced as a "gold standard" assay mark. The karat refers to the amount of pure gold parts per thousand of alloy used to stabalize the very soft gold.

Appraisal including Valuation
by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre

Marie
what a truly exquisite matching brooch and earrings set! Just look at the beautiful high-quality blue turquoise stones contrasting with the high carat yellow gold! And the gold work!

Marie, we do opinions unrelated to valuations on Antique Jewelry Investor. What I can suggest is getting a full appraisal online at
WIW2U. They are not at all expensive and very professional and I have no problem putting my name with them.

best regards
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
