star of Africa?
by: Anonymous

I bought a new wedding band in 1972. It had this mark on the ring. The jeweler told that me that it stood for Star of Africa and meant that the gold came from Africa and was of good quality...

This is so interesting. I have a ring from my grandmother, with the same markings. I live in south Louisiana, she lived in north Louisiana. White gold with 4 round diamonds. I think from the early 1950s.

"* of A" mark
by: Jennifer

Hi,
My husband and I were married using his parents' wedding/engagement rings, and all three of them have the "* of A" marking inscribed inside the rings. It's written just after the 14k marking. They were married in the early 1970's and his dad bought the rings at a local jeweler in Galliano, LA (south of New Orleans). I'm wondering if anyone has any information about this inscription or the designer of the rings.
Thanks!

Star of A... 14 k

I am researching information on my engagement ring.
It also has the insigna .. star of A ( * of A) I found on another search that was the insigna of Mr. Arthur Stellar. But the grandaughter of Arthur stated it was A*. Not exactly the same. My ring is from the 1940's. It has a .5 carrat diamond round center stone with 2 smaller diamonds on each side. I am excited to learn more info.
Thanks!

Expert Opinion
by: Anonymous

Can you upload a picture of the mark in a follow-up submission? Also more information would help - any background info, also what is the metal, is it set with any stones? As much info as you can, even if you think it sounds silly - it is often these little "silly" details that provide the most important clues....

If you need an expert opinion fast, you might prefer to use the paid opinion option which is a separate service.
