Peach OR Pink Pearls?

I've a beautiful single strand of pearls that are peeling. These are either peach or pink pearls (hard to tell), but these pearls came from an estate. They are gritty and individually knotted, but with the peeling its difficult to tell. Can you tell me more about these pearls and maybe help me to determine the color of these pearls? Also, do you know a way that might prevent further peeling of the pearls?
