Pearl necklace clasp marking

My pearl necklace clasp has "14k A" stamped on The fish hook. There are NO other markings on the clasp and I know nothing about the type or quality of my pearls.

Could you please help me find out what the "A" means? I'd like to find out as much as I can about the necklace before I have them appraised.
