pink Coral Cameo

this Cameo belonged to a great grandmother, and was purchased in Italy, the story goes that it is pink coral, but unlike other supposed pink coral cameos I have seen recently, the entire carving is pink, not like others that have a pink base, but the carving itself appears to be an off white..is there any way to really know?
