I know it's disappointing. I also got carried away one day cleaning jewelry and ruined my continental antique foiled gemstone ring, soaking the ring in mild detergent mixed in water and realized too late it had ruined the gold foil behind the stones and now the stones have lost their lively sunny yellow color! It was one of my favorite rings and I don't know to this day what came over me as I should have known better!
