Cartier's Big Cats, Wallace Simpson and Tiger Pins
by: Anonymous

Hi Mary thanks for writing in. Your big cat sounds adorable. King Edward VIII also liked big cats. He commissioned Cartier to make the big cat tiger jewelry for Wallace Simpson.

You can read about Wallace Simpson's jewelry collection Here.

I think the question you would like answered is whether your tiger brooch is gold or gold plated?

First, examine the front and the back of piece with your Jewelers Loupe or magnifying glass and let me know if you can see any stamps or marks anywhere on the metal. This is the first test. Depending on the results we will decide what to look for next to determine if solid gold or if the brooch is gold plated or rolled gold plate.

You are welcome to up load a photo if you like in a follow-up submission. Please type "Small Tiger Pin" in the subject heading. Yes, photos help tremendously.
