Nice Work! The V is a T - 5 is an E - smudge, V is N and G is a G

Marie you got two letters right at least :-) This highlights the need for visitors to send in images, and using a jewelers loupe and keeping things simple.

Regards
Yvonne

I figured it out. It says "STERLING" with the middle letters missing.

Most likely Italian

Hi Marie how unusual - when i first looked at the image of this piece of jewelry I thought it was a Fede Ring which is of Italian origin, (from "Fede" - trust). The Fede ring was a type of finger ring decorated with a pair of hands clasping each other that form the bezel and worn as a betrothal ring, but sometimes worn as a token of affection, similar to the promise ring. They were popular in Europe right up until the 18th century.

The pendant could be Italian. The initials -SV - the Italian province of Savona in which the silversmith was registered. Another possibility is the number "9" before 25 for sterling silver has worn away.

best wishes,
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
