Titanic artifacts represent a piece of history...

by PearlGirl
(USA)

Artifacts from the Titanic, including personal items, are part of history and, therefore, should be carefully preserved rather than left to disintegrate at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

Those items were used and treasured by real people, and I cannot imagine that they would have want them left abandoned. I know that if one of my relatives were tragically killed and all that was left was a piece of jewelry or some other personal item, I would be thrilled knowing that the item had been lovingly preserved to be shared with the rest of the world.

I have had the privilege of visiting two different Titanic exhibits, and being able to see some of the personal items from the passengers of the Titanic that were recovered made a lasting impression on me.

The tragedy was not that a great ship was sunk, but that so many lives were needlessly lost on that ship. The personal artifacts of the passengers of the Titanic really help put the tragedy into perspective.

If you have the opportunity to view a Titanic exhibit, I encourage you to do so. You will not be sorry! PG
