If you could provide a picture we may be able to help you better. The best way to photograph jewelry is by selecting the "macro" setting on your camera. If you're not able to take a picture, I would suggest buying and using a jewelers loupe, this will be much more useful then a magnifying glass as a magnifying glass will likely not be powerful enough to read the small text often seen on jewelry.
