Stars and Hallmarks
by: Yvonne

Hi Judy, without seeing the necklace, we have not much idea concerning the age. Date marks and maker's marks go hand in hand. Without date letters or such, the only way to determine the maker's mark is by an expert examining of the piece, identifying style, the enameling techniques, etc. etc. Many people think a star hallmark means it must be of Russian hallmark however it could also indicate Italian origin, from 1968 the polygon with a star/number and provence was used in Italy. Some Spanish hallmarks may also contain a star.
