Sterling Silver and German Silver
by: Yvonne

Sterling silver contains 92.5 percent pure silver, while German silver contains no silver at all. Another name for German silver is "nickel silver." Early in the 20th century, German silver was also used by automobile manufacturers before the advent of steel sheet metal; for example, the famous Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost of 1907. After about 1920, its use became widespread because it could easily worked by machine tools and also because of it's corrosive resistant properties. It looked like silver was corrosive resistant and without the heavy price-tag was therefore utilized as a cheaper alternative than silver.

G Silver info - possibly imitation pearls
by: Betty Cortez

Good day. I have a string of pearls and the clasp is stamped Gsilver. Do you have any info for me? The pearls are small. Thank you.

Reply: Hi Betty! possibly German Silver. This clasp does not reflect in any way the type or quality of the pearls or imitation pearls.
There are pearl tests you can do at home to gain a better idea of the type of pearls you have. Small size pearls are not as expensive as larger pearls. The following link gives you some pearl tests.
