wedding band

wedding band

I have found what appears to be a gold wedding band.

It has only one mark that I can find and it is one I have not seen before.

It appears to be XXX and then an M turned on it's side next to the Xs

Any thoughts?

Mystery X marks on ring

by Joy
(Minnesota)

Hi, my name is Joy and I hope you can help me identify this ring. I took it to a local jeweler who identified it as 14k with a green tsavorite. I later learned that it is a Belcher setting. Compared to a stone of known carat weight, I would guess this stone to be roughly 1.3 carats. The only stamp I can make out is XXXX.

It looks as though there may have been another stamp at one time with a V or perhaps a W followed by something else.
Any idea what the xxxx mark means? I also took the ring to a local antique dealer whose only comment was that maybe I should research this piece more.

Very much appreciate any help you can give me. I don't have a pic on my computer right now, but can take one and send it if you need me to. Thanks in advance!

X Marks the Ring

by Karren Sorrells
(Staunton, VA, USA)

This is a family heirloom ring handed down for at least five generations from eldest daughter to eldest daughter. It appears to be 10K gold and family oral history claims it originated in England and was custom ordered for the first bride who wore it.
The ring is a wedding band decorated with carved baskets of flowers. The only mark of any kind on the inside of the ring is: XXXX. I would appreciate any information anyone can supply about the origin, age, or goldsmith who make the ring.
