Four X mark
by: Anonymous

OK. Normally, if the x's or one of the x marks was an import mark it would appear in a cartouche shape.

The following link provides some info on X marks which may be useful.

If anyone has any ideas about the 4 x's on an antique gold wedding band (and no aussie four x jokes ;-) please feel free to post a reply.

Reply to Marks on Antique Wedding Rings

To Yvonne Hammounds-Eyre:

Thank your for your response. The X's inside the ring are all in a row; there is no cartouche or enclosure of any kind.

No, I have not had the ring's gold content appraised. I have other antique gold jewelry that is 10K and Rose Gold. This ring matches the 10K gold in color. Good idea, though. I will have that done.

marks on antique wedding rings
by: Anonymous

Hi Karen thanks for writing in. An antique wedding ring with what's called - provenance or history.

Are you certain it is 10kt gold? Has the gold been tested? Antique wedding rings were usually made of higher carat gold.

One of the X's may be an export mark. Could you please let us know if all the X's are in the same box or not. What is the shape of the box or cartouche the X's are in? Are they all in a row, or are some above others?

best regards
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
