Ram head stamped bangle
by: Jconley646

Someone commented above with exactly what I have, a handmade bangle bracelet, hand cut filigree, very heavy with a stamped Rams head facing rightist on the outside along with what looks like an M to the left. I took some pics holding a loupe to the camera lens, but it is a little worn from wear. In person you can see it clearly. I would love to know the origin of the mark. I'm almost positive it's sterling silver, I tested it myself with that chemical kit and scratch stone. I have 2 other smaller silver bangle bracelets that are similarly made but have what looks like a bulls head stamped on the outside. Can I upload pictures in these comments?

A Photo of the RAM PLEASE!
by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre

there are MANY very many animal marks on antique jewelry and 20th century jewelry. Researching an identifiable mark can take hours of research.

animals marks that look like rams, sheep, deers, unicorns, bulls with and without humps, kangaroos (there actually is a Kangaroo mark and it's a BRITISH maker!) and lions (the big cat marks is another volume) Add to this - the problem that what I see as a unicorn
a visitor from South Africa may see as a springbok.

Add to this complex mix the probability that the mark is NOT A NEW FRESH MARK as Hallmark Help is dedicated to Antique and 20th Century Jewelry and as one would expect, most likely faded over time and hard to see clearly. Sometimes just barely visible.

Add to this mix is the fact that not everyone has perfect vision, and not everyone is using a magnifying glass to describe the animal they see.

This is why a picture is SO IMPORTANT in HALLMARK DETERMINATION especially when it comes to animal marks.

If any person has a picture of a ram's head mark and would like to contribute and would like to Send Me an attachment of the photo -
I will upload a photo in this discussion thread for the benefit of our visitors and the repository of jewelry hallmark knowledge in general.

Best Regards
Yvonne

Ram's Head on SILVER
by: Anonymous

A Ram's head (directly facing you as you look at the ram mark) appears on Bourges, France - SILVER ca. 1784 -1791.

You are welcome to submit a photo of the mark in a follow-up submission. Please type "Ram's Head On Bracelet | Follow Up" in the subject field.

Perhaps the bracelet was rhodium plated at a later date. Rhodium is a white metallic element that is of the platinum family . Because of its HARD REFLECTIVE FINISH it is often used as a plating for jewelry.

best wishes,
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
