Italian Gold Chain | Identification
by: Yvonne

Good Morning!

Jennifer, you mentioned your gold chain is stamped ITALY. This is a big clue.

325 is normally a gold content or purity mark = 9 carat gold BUT not in the case of your gold Italian chain.

As 18K is the common gold standard mark for Italy, the 14K Italian chain was made for the foreign market. The five pointed star tells you the chain was made AFTER 1968. The three numbers next to the star are the registration number of the goldsmith. The two letters after the numbers are the Italian province abbreviation (where the smith was registered)

VI= Vicenza

We only provide free opinions unrelated to value on the Antique Jewelry Investor Help Forums. If you would like a Valuation, thru Antique Jewelry Investor please find the Appraisal Form HERE.

(Jenny, you will need to know the weight of the chain for appraisal purposes)

Best Wishes,
Yvonne
