X mark
by: Grace

Hi Kirsty maybe the x mark on the 22 ct gold ring is a date letter. I found an X mark inside a british ring once and it turned out to be a date letter. For example, an X inside a round reserve is the birmingham date letter for 1872. If the X is In a square reserve, 1922. If X mark is written in cursive and within a square reserve it may be a chester date letter for 1823. That's why photos of the gold marks are so important.

I hope this might help to narrow down the field.
