Hi Julie thanks for writing in. The "M" sideways is actually a "W" sideways and the maker is JOHN R. WOOD & SONS (merged with LENOX, Inc. in 1970) mostly on Gold Rings, Manufacturing Jewelers, New York, NY, USA - ca 1850 - 1970
