Hi, many times the pearls purchased in Japan or Korea will not be knotted because they think it detracts from the appearance-so you will find Mikimotos without knots.
I have from time to time seen Mikimoto pearls that were not individually knotted, especially ones with silver clasps. But, the quality should still be superior.
