Locking C clasps were patented in 1910 and they started showing up in the late teens early 20's. The newer style which puts it in the late 40's

Hi there and thanks for writing in. This type of pendant loop was popular in the early 20th century. It attaches to a brooch and makes it into a brooch/pendant combination. I can just make out, (when I zoom in close) what I think to be, the soldering pad at the base of the loop, which means this ingenious little double/up mechanism was an addition to this cameo brooch.
When the brooch was originally purchased it would not have had this pendant loop.
