Does this mother-of-pearl ring look authentic? And what do inscriptions mean?

I recently purchased this ring from an individual and was told it was valued at $550 (i didn't pay that for it). I have seen mother-of-pearl rings that were a few dollars, to just under $100 to in the thousands... so I wonder what makes one fall in those different ranges.

Can you review the pictures and tell me anything about it? Can you tell if it is "real?" I especially wondered what the odd symbols on the inside were... someone told me they thought it was just copyright symbols.
