Handmade DBS ancient rings
by: Anonymous

I have 2 gold nugget rings with 7 diamonds on each one. Jared gallery said they were handmade for someone. They came up from the ground in an erosion area in my grandmas front yard. She built her house here in 1971 and before then it was just woods. Inside one of the rings are the letters DBS. My father said nobody has lost any rings there over the decades so they would have to be pretty old.

Hello Mr E.

great news! and a nice piece of jewelry investigation! DC - Diamond Crusted. Did the jeweler give you an idea about the age of the wedding band?

DC 28
by: Mr E

hi it was a second hand band i took it to a jewelers yesterday and to my surprise it was DC 28 = Diamond Crusted with just over a quarter of a diamond as the 28 stood for 0.28 grams of diamond. My wife paid £200 and the jeweler said to have it insured for £600 to £800 . I nearly fell through the floor as i believed the diamond to be a replica of sorts but thank you for your time and if i have any more queries regarding jewelry in the future i will bare this site in mind.

Any chance of a photo?
by: Anonymous

Oh - the lucky receiver of this beautiful men's diamond wedding band! Obviously it isn't a new diamond wedding band, if you are having trouble and finding the marks hard to read. Can you take a photo of the mark inside the ring by any chance so that we can see what you are not sure about?

DC 28 engraving inside gold diamond ring
by: Anonymous

Hi i have just purchased a men's two tone gold diamond wedding ring with what looks like DC 28 as well as the hall mark and carot engraving.

Now i'm not a hundred percent sure about the C it could be O and the 28 is very worn as well, im assuming it's a two and an eight by the top of the numbers as they are worn as well.

I have just been searching on the internet and came across this post and i'm wondering if it is similar, any input would be appreciated thank you.

DB marks, meaning of flowers, antique wedding band
by: Anonymous

Hi Cherril

thanks for further info. I'm really not sure about the DB. It might not even be a hallmark/ maker's mark. It's hard to say without seeing it.

If you have any ideas, or any comments, please help Cherril out and post a comment in the above link.

the higher and lower arrows joined together, for instance, could be the maker's mark. it is hard to say without seeing the actual marks. M and W on their sides, is the mark for J. R. Wood & Sons, 15 Maiden Lane, New York City.

If there is no assay mark, the age can only be estimated on the quality, craftsmenship, finish and design of the piece, by experts on antique jewellery.

How beautiful. The forget-me-knots around the antique wedding band is not surprising. In puritan societies, people in love, harnessed the meanings of flowers, and transferred it to jewelry, thus giving a voice to their love through Jewelry. Best Wishes, Yvonne

Gold Band with DB. Markings
by: Anonymous

The letters are capital DB. (point after the B). The letters are not in any shape, diamond, etc. Next to the DB. are two markings that look like:-

< >
< >

the higher and lower arrows being joined together. Almost like an M and W on their sides. The ring is a solid band with scroll, flower, scroll, flower and so on. My great-aunt told me her sister gave it to her when she visited her in Virginia and told her the flowers were forget-me-nots. I have no idea of the carat either. I have tried to take a photograph but the markings are blurred and difficult to capture. Hope this helps. Thank you

More Information Requested.

Hi Cherril

Have you any idea about the age of the gold band?

Are the letters in a shape, a rectangle, a diamond, are the letters stylized? Also if we could see the ring, we could get an idea about the age of the ring, and know in which direction to start searching.

Cherril, for example, there is an old 18th century mark, initials DB - sponsor mark - (Daniel Boyer, [Boston, MA, USA] - ca 1740s - 1779). There's a decimal point between the D & B and other details in relation to the style of the letters and the background shape the letters are in, and would need to see the mark inside the band and compare, to eliminate this possibility.

Best Wishes,

Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
