Gold Testing Equipment and Antique Gold Jewelry
by: Anonymous

Hi Sandi thanks for your question. We will need to see these marks. They do not sound like British hallmarks. You can up load a photo in a follow-up submission. Please type "Hallmarks on Antique Gold Jewelry" in the headline so that I can quickly assign the photo with your question.

Were these two pieces handed down to you? How do you know they're ANTIQUE GOLD JEWELRY?

If they were made in the US before 1906 they may not have gold standard marks as these were not required in the US before 1906.

In the UK 15, 12 and 9 karat gold were legally recognized in 1854.

Your local jewelry can acid test the metal for you and also confirm the gold composition. He shouldn't charge too much as it's a pretty simple test that you can do at home if you have digital gold testing equipment or acid testing equipment that is contained in a wooden box.

Best Regards
