Is it a true Incolay box?
From what you describe, yes. This is what we look for:
- "Heavy* Real Incolay Stone is _very_ heavy. It is a layered, solid stone material, not light resin. Fakes feel light and plasticky. - *Blue with white swirls.* That marbled blue and white is the signature Incolay Stone colour. It goes right through the material, not painted on. - *Brass hinge + velvet inside.* The classic jewelry box presentation from the 1960s-80s. - *Perfect condition.* The material is incredibly hard-wearing.
Most genuine boxes will also have *"INCOLAY" and "USA"* incised into the bottom, sometimes with *"Austin Productions Inc."* - they were the main distributor.
It's a beautiful piece of 1970s American decorative art - made to look like ancient carved cameo stone.
If you want to be 100% sure, you could send a clear photo of the bottom mark to the *Incolay Collectors group on Facebook* or to *Replacements Ltd* - they have a huge archive of Incolay marks and can confirm in a day.
