Gold Marks

There are many ways gold can be marked usually depending on where it was made.
Here is a link which shows demonstrates UK hallmarks including showing that 585 means 14K gold.The higher the number the more gold content. I believe that 585 means the gold content is 58.5 gold.

American Marks are often 9K, 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K etc referring to the karat of gold...the higher the number the more gold content.
I believe the other marks, such as star, additional number or initials are makers marks. They may be specifically Italian makers marks.

silver marked 800 means there is 80% silver content - 900 means there is 90% silver content
silver marked 925 is 92.5% silver content and is considered "sterling silver"

my Grandmother has a 14k Butterfly lapis with two half k diamonds eyes and connected to a 14k gold chain with a star 1 AR also with little lettering on the side that I am unable to read and the other side with the numbers 585, the numbers 585 also shows up on the back side of the butterfly with 14k can you give me some info about the Necklace?
