Matching a Single Pearl Earring
by: Anonymous

Hi Derek thanks for connecting.

It's going to take you tiiiimmmme to match the pearl. You have to determine what type of pearl is it? Whether the pearl is a cultured pearl, freshwater or Natural pearl?

It could be but I doubt a pearl imitation, without any visual clues we just don't know!

Next you have to match the colour AND overtone for example many Akoya pearls which are cultured pearls have a pinkish overtone. Your pearl might be an Australian white cultured pearl with a cream overtone, a Tahitian black pearl, which most likely would be cultured also. It could possibly be a south sea golden pearl, the latter of which are known for their large size and incomparable colour. Even though this pearl is known for its large size they look sensational as earrings for those ladies who can pull it off.

The gold or striking yellow colour of this type of pearl comes in many different shades of gold colour. I shouldn't use the term gold when talking colour with gems and pearls and pearls are gems, but I can't think of a more apt colour description for this colour pearl. They hardly look yellow - a bit of a soggy pizza colour pearl description if you ask me.

The lustre of the pearl is another subject in itself! Are you getting the point?

We have no idea of knowing what type of pearl it is and this is the first thing you should try and work out. Size, shape - lustre, sheen and visual effects will then be considered in order to perfectly match "aller simple" pearl. (french for single :-)

No - Not done yet - we would need to scrutinise the hardware, the metal fabrication of the single earring, the type of metal that was used, the type of finding that was used to attach the earring to the earlobe.

As you can imagine it would take a great deal of time for anyone not well acquainted with pearl jewellery to match a pearl earring. Maybe weeks if not more of intense research. If the earring is very special to your friend and I'm guessing it really must be other wise you would not have sent this question, and you feel I can be of any value in your inspiring challenge I can work with you to have an identical pearl earring reproduced. Another alternative is to have the single pearl earring converted to a pearl pendant.

Yours sincerely
Yvonne
