The Maltese Cross is an eight pointed star, the emblem of Malta.
A "14k" stamp indicates your ring is solid 14 karat gold and comprised of 58.5% pure gold. When paired with a Maltese cross, the piece was almost certainly manufactured by the historic Ostby & Barton Co., a prominent American Jewelry maker famous for their vintage rings.
Of historic interest, one of the founders of Ostby & Barton Co, Norwegian-American, Engelhart Cornelius Ostby who co-founded Ostby & Barton was returning to Rhode Island, US with his daughter Helen from a trip to Egypt. In 1912; they boarded the fateful ship in Cherbourg, France. After the iceberg struck, Ostby went back to their cabin to grab warmer clothes and was separated from his daughter, who was forced onto a lifeboat. Ostby perished on the Titanic, at age 64, while Helen survived and went on to run the family business.
