i have a brooch thats a 1885 years old in a little square box its has 14 a a symbol of an ankor or a letter J how can i find out what this is and it has a turquiose stone on it thank you

it's difficult without actually seeing a picture of your vintage brooch, for what it's worth...simple number marks are not the same as country hallmarks unless accompanied with an official hallmark. Simple number marks are often struck into the metal by the manufacturer, and do not always reflect the true purity of the metal. best
