Mikimoto Clasp?
by: Jen

Thank you so much for providing such detailed and valuable information!

I was wondering whether you, or anyone else might know anything about the clasp on the necklace? As I could not see an "M" in a clam shell (perhaps it is hidden or worn off?) I was concerned about its authenticity, but then a jewelry store owner told me it is one of the more valued clasps and offered to buy it. Could anyone please help?

Again, thank you!

Mikimoto Cultured Pearls Lane Crawford
by: Anonymous

Lane Crawford is a widespread Asian retailer with stores in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong as well as others. It not only carries clothing, it also carries fine jewelry.

Having been to Hong Kong twice, I know there are many stores that carry the finest of Asian pearls - Mikimoto. All over the world, it is not uncommon for retailers to add their stores' names to containers of fine items.

That is just what Lane Crawford did. They do not have the exclusive rights to sell Mikimoto pearls in Hong Kong.

Mikimoto pearls are finely matched pearls and still enjoy a wonderful reputation. Unfortunately prices for Mikimoto pearls have dropped in the last 20 years.

The process of making fine cultured pearls has been so refined that the pearl market has been flooded. You didn't mention the size in millimetres of your pearls. Color is also very important.

The pinkish-white pearls are considered among the best. The yellowish-white are the among the least favored.

I hope this helps!
