If you could get a close-up photo of the initial marks, it would help a lot. You can up load a photo of the mark, if you like in a follow-up submission.
R&F were the initials of RILEY & FRENCH (N. Attleboro, MA, USA) - ca 1887 - 1916
The problem is the star and if your "and" between R & F meant the symbol appears as "&". "Stars" can mean lots of things on jewelry markings, it may not necessarily even be part of the trade mark. But them again it might. That is why photos of things like & and stars, are so important.
