replace vintage pearls

nearly the last time pearls were seen

My daughter lost the pearls her grandmother gave her for graduation. It had a 14k gold stamp on the clasp which was broken and replaced before giving. I'm guessing they were 6-7mm, 18 inches, and originally purchased in the 1940s.

The jeweler who replaced the clasp indicated they were probably real because of the gold clasp, but he did not give an actual estimate. Knowing the great uncle who originally purchased these I would expect that they were of good to better quality in terms of lustre and shape. Now we are trying to decide whether to make an insurance claim or just buy some new pearls. What do you think?
