Hi Karen If its at the start of a full 5 set of gold Hallmarks then an "RP" maker's mark on gold likely stands for a registered maker, such as Robert Pringle & Sons (1895-1932), Richard Palmer I (1760-1797), or Robert Peaston (1762-1778) If you could make out the rest of the hallmarks that would be great. Assay office, gold purity, and date.

Rolled Gold Plate by: Yvonne
Karen, the gold marks are genuine. Rolled Gold Plate is an older term for gold filled. It is the same process as gold filled but the sheets of gold that form the outer tube of gold were thicker.
The term was used in the 19th and early 20th century. probably 9k rolled gold plate. There's some really good gold testing equipment on the market.
There is a gold tester on the jewelry lovers products page on this site, that I use regularly to test gold and platinum. It's available for purchase in the amazon widget on this page of Antique Jewelry Investor here. These gold testers can determine if solid gold or gold plate and caratage.
If it does happen to test solid gold, it will be a manufacturers mark.
