The rams head is used for 18ct gold in Tunisia which has a lot of French ties.

Hi Susan thank you so much for writing in. Your heirloom antique bracelet sounds exquisite! You mention this piece is heavy and doesn't seem to tarnish, perhaps it is made of white gold or Platinum. Platinum is a heavy metal, it is a white coloured metal with a very slight greyish caste.
Not all animal head marks are ram's heads, lions or leopard's heads :-) That's why images are so important. For example, the French standard mark for 18 carat gold + and Platinum ca. 1910 to Present is a dog's head facing right.
