Solid Gold

I inherited my grandfather's wedding band (bought approximately in 1917) which has inscribed on the inside, "Solid Gold." It has a pinkish/whitish cast to it. Looking at it through a jewelers loop, it looks to be plated but I don't know, although I believe it is. Other than that, I have no other information on the ring. I am assuming that it probably isn't very valuable but it would be nice to know what the term, "solid gold" might really mean. Thank you for your time and help.
