Fuji Pearl, Cultured Pearl, Ginza Tokyo
by: snowlady

My Husband brought home a 19" Necklace of graduated pearls 4mm to 8mm in size, on cord knotted between each with a 'silver'(marked) hook and clasp with a 4mm pearl on top. In a red velvet box 4" x 6" with light yellow satin lid interior with 'Fuji Pearl, Cultured Pearl, Ginza Toyko' 'Made in Japan' with a mountain with a string of pearls surrounding it, all in a gold embossing. The base of interior box is light yellow velvet with two velvet hooks to hold the necklace. The outer box is white cardboard with an exterior pebble design and a silver glue on label with the mountain with pearls and 'Fuji Pearls'. The exterior box bottom has a 5/8" diameter finger hole for ease of removing the velvet box and 'Made in Japan' stamped on bottom right corner. This was My Wedding gift November 1968. His ship stopped in Japan after a Typhoon, he took the bullet train to Toyko and back.
If you could estimate current value I would appreciate it. Thank You.

Fuji pearls
by: Jean

My father went to Vietnam in 1968 and brought his wife and each of his daughters a pearl necklace, pin, and earrings. They are Fuji pearls and may have been purchased through the base there? My necklace is 4.25 mm pearls and is still in the original box and the price he paid was $8.50!!!!

Company was active at least until 1960

I am holding a necklace and earrings set, in a fine red velvet box with blue velvet interior marked Fuji pearl Cultured Pearl Ginza Tokyo.

This set was bought by my father in 1959 and shipped home to my mom along with numerous other pearls by mikimoto.

Matching Bracelet
by: Anonymous

I have the matching bracelet. It is a 3 stranded bracelet with 'silver' on the clasp. I can't find it anywhere is my online search and was wondering if anyone had any info on it. I took it to a jeweler but all he would say is it would take the right buyer to purchase and never gave me a estimate of its worth.

Top Quality Fuji Pearls

Good Afternoon Ashleigh!

Congratulations! What a great bargain!

Fuji Pearl Co. of Ginza Japan were contemporaries of Mikimoto and setup shop in the upmarket Ginza district of central Tokyo, like Mikimoto. Ginza is packed with brand name stores and some of the most expensive land in Japan. In 1941?? (needs more research) the company was closed by the Japanese Military at the onset of the Pacific war.

Can someone please verify company Fuji Pearls Ginza Tokyo closed down at the onset of WWII?

I would date these pearls to the 1930s in which decade the perfectly spherical pearls had reached global recognition and the 1920s vogue for long dangling strings of pearls went out of fashion, replaced by the shorter, double row of pearls that fitted more around the neck.

To verify the box is the original to the pearls (& for your peace of mind) the Fuji Pearls would indeed be marked "silver" as opposed to 925 or Sterling. The pearls will be Japanese Akoya pearls and appear round with white body colour & quite possibly a pink orient.
(instore appraisal highly recommended) They look very lustrous and well matched and no surprise you love wearing them!

I would conservatively value these at around $750 - depending on the condition and size of the pearls.

Thank you Ashleigh for writing in to us!

Best Regards

Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
