W 15 M hallmark??

G'day I found a Ring today with the detector where an old Pine and Pug ruin was burnt down many years ago. It appears to be brass but has stamps on the inside W 15 M it has been squashed a little out of shape and the join has started to crack, I am 90% sure it is brass but why would someone stamp a brass ring? Going by the broken bottles around the site I would date it 1890 to no later than 1925
