Bead-Set Antique Jewelry
by: Anonymous

Hi Diana

your heirloom wedding ring set containing emeralds, I'm sure is absolutely gorgeous! Without the benefit of an image, it sounds to me, like this wedding ring set is late Victorian ca. 1890s. The setting is interesting, in this type of setting, diamonds or other stones, such as emeralds, are fit into tapered holes and set almost level with the surface of the ring. Some of the surrounding metal is then raised up to form tiny beads which hold the stones in place. Sometimes the metal around these bead-set stones is raised or engraved to form decorative patterns and design.

best wishes,
Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
