More X mark info
by: Anonymous

Here is an interesting link about x marks on jewelry. Please note, there are other x mark denotations. For example, there are three cross marks on HARLINGEN, NETHERLANDS on SILVER - ca 19th century.

Jewelry Markings on 750 Gold
by: Anonymous

Hi thanks for writing in with the following hallmark question:

"My engagement ring has a stamp with H.M, 750 and an anchor. It also has a H and X individually marked with no outer stamps. Please can you help."

Without the benefit of a photo we are not sure which direction to research, the ring could either be UK manufactured or a pseudo British hallmark.

750 is the gold purity mark. It is equivalent to 18K, 18ct or 750 (parts per 1000) or 75% gold. Most quality pieces of jewelry are 750.

There is no decimal point mentioned before the gold-mark which gives a clue to the age as after 1975 the decimal point was dropped off.

Henry Manton used this mark H.M but mainly on Tableware, Birmingham, UK - and a lot earlier than 1975 -

Henry Manton, H.M ca 1830s - 1880s

the x may be a foreign import mark.

best wishes,

Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
