Albert Chains
by: Anonymous

Hi the chain is an Albert Watch Chain. Pocket watches and Albert chains were at the peak of Victorian Fashion in the 1880s-90s. This chain looks like it might be made of rose gold as it has a pinkish caste to it. Check to see if it's marked so you know what the gold purity is. Also check that no parts have been added or altered as this will also affect the value.

Albert chains can be made of gold or silver and characterized by having a swivel on at least one end and were worn usually across a man's waistcoat from pocket to pocket, to anchor a pocket watch and threaded through a waistcoat buttonhole or more often secured to it by the short attached bar, called a T bar.

Albert chains are made in a great variety of types with many styles and types of links, including mass-produced, machine made chains of standard forms and nomenclature. ie. Trace Chain, Curb Chain, Fetter Chain as well as unique hand-made chains and original designs.

Albert chains are often worn around women's necks now and they look really wonderful, so I am told....

I have an 18 inch Albert in 9 ct rose gold and I always get compliments whenever I wear it.

Enjoy!

Sarah
